T.cartier, Tiger on the Prowl, Early 20th Century, Sculpture in Patinated Terracotta

Terra cotta sculpture with brown patina, titled “Tigre à l’Affût” (Tiger on the prowl) and signed Thomas Cartier (1879-1943).
Born in Marseille and a pupil of Georges Gardet, Cartier was an award-winning animal sculptor, notably at the 1927 Paris Salon, where he won the gold medal.
This work depicts a tiger striding along, on the lookout for its surroundings.
The artist masterfully depicts every detail of this great hunting feline. An animal as bewitching as it is ruthless.
