Mid 20th Century Chinese Laborer Carrying Baskets

These baskets were originally used in rural China in 1987. They were purchased and brought back to the US in that year from direct purchase. The baskets were used to carry produce to the marketplace on the shoulders of the seller with a bamboo pole. The baskets were hand weaved and can be adjusted for placement on the carrying pole. Note that although baskets are of similar size of top diameter of 20 inches and height of 14 inches, the carrying pole is 58 long by 3 1/2 inches at widest point.
