French copper golden plate in commemration of Marie-Thérèse of Austria and Louis XIV king.
This dish was produced in 1860 to commemorate the two-hundredth anniversary of the marriage of Louis XIV to the Infanta of Spain, called Maria Theresa of Austria because her mother was the daughter of the Emperor of Austria (Habsburg family).
Since the French Revolution in 1789, there has been a succession of political regimes: monarchies, empires and republics. In 1860, monarchists were still an influential group. This explains the making of this tray, which more than a wall decoration was a means of spreading the idea of French monarchical grandeur.
