Castelli Piretti Axis 3000 3 seat Bench with flip-up seats. name: Axis 3000 bench; designer: Giancarlo Piretti; manufacturer: Anonima Castelli, Italy; design year: 1970s; The DSC 106 chair from 1965 was redesigned begin seventies and became a modular system with seats and small tables on a steel beam. Frequently used in waiting-rooms; doctor, dentist and especially airports. These were also used as theater/theatre, cinema and auditorium seating, as our set was. polished cast aluminium parts on a steel beam, “Castelli” imprinted on the end caps; blond birch veneer plywood seat and backs; the seats are spring loaded, they can be adjusted to stay in the down position or adjusted to automatically flip-up when empty. Currently this bench as both options; freestanding, levelling feet, “Castelli 9-(19)89” cast in underneath; mid-century modern, vintage, retro, 1970s.
