A fine example of a diminutive burled walnut vargueno, collector or valuables cabinet, with molded cornice and drop front, opening to a multi-drawer interior with two fitted upper drawers with fabric fronts surmounting a center block of drawers, including a central foliate carved prospectus with carved arch and figure, with additional hidden drawers behind it, over a single lower long drawer, all of which feature figural drop brass pulls. The front three sides of the cabinet continues the scroll decorated red velour fabric panels, with carved figures on all four corners. It has appeared to have retained its original wrought iron and brass hardware. Probably Spanish in origin, dating to the 17th or 18th century, in very good overall condition, with great patina, minor worm damage, fabric and corner losses, shrinkage cracks, and other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 22.25 in H x 23.25 in W x 13.25 in D, 24.25 in D with front open.
