A beautiful Set of 20 Postcards with original photos of Arab cultures of North Africa created and commercialized by Lehnert & Landrock and signed “Editeurs L&L”. This was a photographic studio run by Rudolf Franz Lehnert (Germany 1878-1948) and Ernst Heinrich Landrock (Bohemia 1878-1966) active in Tunisia and Egypt in the early 20th century, noted for producing Orientalist images of North African people, landscapes, and architecture for a primarily European audience. These images were mainly distributed in monographs, though also as original prints, photogravures, and lithographic postcards. This set of 20 pieces in sepia color depicts individual portraits, couples, groups, landscapes, and architecture in various countries and locations, most in vertical format, while some showing groups and landscapes are horizontal. A remarkable example of European curiosity for exotic and far away peoples and places as well as romanticized travels to little-known destinations.
