German silver goblet by Theodor Julius Gunther, 1886-1906 The silver goblet was made by silversmith Theodor Julius Gunther- Robert Freund from Berlin. Theodor Gunther founded his company around 1808, but the German state silver mark was not introduced until 1886, so the goblet must date from after 1886. The company was succeeded by Robert Freund. The goblet, raised on a round foot, has a guilloché pattern all around and an oval medallion of an engraved belt, which can be engraved with a name or monogram. Hall marks of Theodor Julius Gunther, succeeded by Robert Freund with hall marks Crescent and Crown, silver 800 (800/000) purity of silver. Dutch silver hallmark with tax stamp for foreign works, the boar’s head, used between 1893-1906. So this goblet dates between 1886 and 1906. There appears to be a dent on the back of the goblet, but it is a strike from the Dutch stamp hallmark. The measurement is 9 cm high and 6,3 cm diagonal. The weight is 82 grams
