The Faïencerie de Gien was created in 1821, in the middle of the XNUMXth century during which many other production sites were born, heirs to the ceramists of past centuries. Its creator, Thomas Hall, moved to Gien and bought the enclosure and the buildings of the Couvent des Minimes located on the banks of the Loire.
At that time, the city of Gien had several important economic assets: a real commercial crossroads, the city was full of raw materials (clay, sand, siliceous pebbles from the Loire) and above all the Loire allowed the transport of wood from the forests of Orléans. for baking ovens.
From the second half of the XNUMXth century, earthenware reached its golden age and became more creative. The Manufacture thus begins to offer decorative pieces and table services inspired by Rouen, Saxony, Marseilles… or even the Renaissance, the Ottoman Empire, Antiquity, etc… In addition to the various inspirations, the richness of the collections is brought by the collaboration with painters, engravers… who are invited to imagine new decorations and forms.
The Faïencerie de Gien continues its rise, and becomes recognized throughout France and abroad, it also continues its move upmarket by offering personalized services bearing the arms of the great families of Europe.
